IFA 2026: MAMMOTION Targets the Garden’s Hardest Problem — The Edges

BERLIN — Robotic mowers have mastered cruising open expanses of turf, but they have consistently struggled with two stubborn problems: chewing up grass during tight turns and leaving perimeter strips along walls and fences that still require manual string trimming.  


At IFA 2026, outdoor robotics brand MAMMOTION tackled those exact bottlenecks. Alongside celebrating its 10th anniversary, the brand introduced its LUBA 4 AWD series for residential gardens, previewed its dedicated edge-trimming module, and launched the heavy-duty Maston commercial series designed for municipal and commercial fleet maintenance.  



1. LUBA 4 AWD: Triple-Redundant Navigation and Zero-Tear Steering


The headline residential launch is the LUBA 4 AWD, an overhaul of MAMMOTION’s popular all-wheel-drive platform aimed at irregular ground, steep hills, and complex garden layouts.

Triple-Redundant Tri-Fusion Sensing


Autonomous mowers often struggle under dense tree canopies or beside tall structures where satellite RTK signals drop out. LUBA 4 AWD combats drift with a sensor fusion array consisting of 360° LiDAR, NetRTK, and a four-camera visual setup covering front, rear, and sides. The system operates on a triple-redundancy failover: if dense foliage obstructs RTK, LiDAR and vision maintain centimeter-level tracking without stopping.  


Bidirectional Drive and Independent Front-Wheel Steering

Traditional skid-steer mowers rotate on their center axis to reverse, which can grind away grassroots and leave bald spots or "doughnuts" on lawns. The LUBA 4 AWD addresses this in two ways:  

  • True Front-Wheel Steering: Independent steering motors guide wheels through clean arcs instead of dragging them laterally.  

  • Bidirectional Cutting: Equipped with cameras and sensors facing both directions, the mower can mow down a corridor, reverse orientation, and start the next pass without performing a 180° turn.  


The Edge-Trimming Module

The companion edge-trimming accessory mounts directly to the mower body to cut flush against masonry, fences, and flowerbeds. By bringing string-line trimming into the automated r

routing schedule, the module aims to remove manual edge cleanups from lawn care. 

 


2. Maston Series: Fleet-Scale Commercial Groundskeeping

For grounds managers overseeing sports fields, golf courses, parks, and corporate campuses, MAMMOTION unveiled the Maston series.  

  • Intelligent Fleet Control: Connects multiple mowers to a centralized management dashboard for coordinated group paths, area partitioning, and automated remote health diagnostics.  

  • Dual Cutter Options:

    • Maston Rotary: Designed for dense, coarse overgrowth, running triple high-torque motors across rough ground.  

    • Maston Flail: Engineered for high-finish, fine-turf maintenance.  

  • Rapid Turnaround Hardware: Includes modular quick-release discs, sensors, and wheels for tool-free field maintenance. Mowers operate with a 500W fast-charging system to minimize dock downtime during working hours.  


Pricing & Release Schedule

  • Maston Series: Pre-orders are currently open across authorized distributor networks in Europe and Australia.  

  • LUBA 4 AWD Series: Detailed regional configurations and pricing will be announced in Q4 2026, ahead of broad deployment for the spring 2027 lawn season.
